Snow Ice & The Holidays

I am been so busy lately,my head is spinning. I have managed to mail out over 50 Christmas Cards to friends and family. I have been working crazy schedules. When not at work I have been chaperoning and making cookies for school activities for 2 children. Oh and shopping, and more shopping. Oh how I love Santa! Haha..I have had to drive to and fro in the snow and ice storms. Yet I looked at the calendar on our family cork board and even though it says the correct date it is technically still Fall. Yea right not here, not in this state. My head is spinning. When I do have a day off my list is a million things to do long. Oh and it helps in the middle of it weather decides to early release the children from school. Oh joyful is the season. I want to live simply and I wish the holiday season to be just that. Yet as the economy grows dimmer I wonder what the future holds. Perhaps January will bring the peaceful quietness I so adore and long for in the winter's here. The tranquility and the time of reflection. I miss my parents and my younger brother, even more so this time of year as the holidays are slowly approaching, sooner then I anticipate. I miss our dear family friend who is serving our country in Afghanistan, I think of him and pray for his family. We look forward to his return in May 2009. I don't even know how I found this one small chance to write this all down. Happy Holidays to all near and far wishing for peace.

So God help us all, America has made a poor choice, an uninformed decision. I am so upset I went and took our flag down. He was not my choice and he doesn't deserve to be the President. He can't even place his hand over his heart to recite the pledge of allegiance. God Bless America., we are going to need it. Maybe we will all just go to hell in a hand basket. He is a fraud.

Today she is 8..I feel happy and sad at the same time.
She is the best part of my everyday, and has been since she was born.
In my daughter's eyes, I can see the future.
A reflection of who I am,
An' what will be.
An' though she'll grow an', some day, leave:
Maybe raise a family,
When I'm gone, I hope you'll see,
How happy she made me,
For I'll be there, in my daughter's eyes

We had a Hannah Montana Birthday Party, she had a wonderful time with her cute friends at the bowling alley. I love her more then she will ever know.

Design & Declutering

Winter cleaning is somewhat like spring cleaning. I am attempting to so the fall winter clean up thinga round here, I think it may be a huge negative when you have to live with the changing of the season. It feels so good though to declutter, if I could only spend more time to it.

Harvest Time

pumpkin, originally uploaded by MsMamaK.

So last week, we went to the pumpkin farm, this is an annual family tradition. The children have gone since we moved here., age seventeen months for k and since birth for s. They enjoy going not just for the farm, pick the pumpkin off the vine experience, but all of us together and the simplicity of it. Or as I would like to believe that is what they are getting from it. It is a real farm with lots of open space., old apples trees perhaps over a 100 years old. This farm has been run for generations. It will contiue as such., we were lucky enough to meet the farmer's grandson's wife, so I can imagine this farm will be here for many more years, as she was a new young mother. She gave us a small quick tour and much to my delight I saw more of the farm I never knew exisited. We all had a blast!

NEVER FORGET

W.H. Auden. This is actually what I want to say: "Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone. Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone. Silence the pianos and with muffled drum, Bring out the coffin... let the mourners come. Let aeroplanes circle, moaning overhead, Scribbling on the sky the message: He is Dead. Put crepe bows 'round the necks of public doves, Let traffic policemen wear black, cotton gloves. He was my North, my South, my East, my West. My working week and my Sunday rest. My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song, I thought love would last forever: I was wrong. The stars are not wanted now, put out every one. Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun. Pour out the ocean and sweep up the wood, For nothing now can ever come to any good."

First Day

Yesterday was the first day of school. K entered 2ND grade., it's always been so easy for her, she has been reading since she was 4., school is not challenging at all for her. I don't even think she was nervous about returning. I look at her and she is suddenly so big and looks so grown up. S had his first day of Kindergarten yesterday, he was nervous, and expressed it to myself and his new teacher. I t was a long day without them here at the house, it was silent, they are the ones who make a house a home, they are our life, our blessings. I don't know who is more nervous, or worried about letting go.

Vacation

Day one..August 23, 2008 Saturday:
Not the day to travel, unless you like to leave at 6am. We hit traffic everywhere..Hampton tolls, Boston, and all through the South Shore. It was dreadfully long and painfull for all of us.
Normally a 3.5 to 4 hour car ride took a little over 5 freakin hours!!! Stephen unpacks, heads to the cape to see his friend. We had a nice lasange dinner with my folks.

Day two August 24.., Sunday
We wake up early too early 4:30 am..ugh. Have coffee breakfast, yummy blueberry pancakes. We go to the mall to begin school shopping. Stephen is a breeze to shop for he has the perfect little body, and is not hard to please whatsoever. He picked out a few Polo's a pr of jeans and a pr of cargo pants. Off to get new sneakers.. again easy to please here in this department as well.
Kalen on the other hand..oh boy nothing fits in the little girls sizes any longer., so off to the juniors..where everything has something tacky on it, or your ass is an advertisement??? Picked out a few items, that still looked "girlish" and super cute shoes.

Day three August 25,..Monday
We take the commuter rail"t"..into Boston to go to the New England Aquarium. It was fun and strange, because it is brand new to the south shore area.., at least for us because it wasn't there when I was growing up, or even in my late 20's. We arrive at 10am.., and meet my brother and his son.., right at the front of the entrance. We had a fabulous time seeing all the exhibits It was still as I remembered on school field trips. I am so happy that Stephen came with us and that the children were able to explore all that this wonderful museum has to offer. As well as being in the city. We walked over to Faniuel after for a quick lunch. Again just as I remembered it to be, The Black Rose and sissy K's..all the food from everywhere and anywhere served to your delight. And desserts that truly are authentic to the areas of Boston cultures.
The trip home seemed longer, but it was still fun..the kids seemed wiped out too.

Day four August 26..Tuesday..
Stephen went to the cape..brought the kids., my mom brought dad to his eye Dr. appointment.., which happens to be in the plaza which is less than a mile from the in laws. So Stephen stayed he was to go fishing he next day. So my parents too the kids home..
We went school shopping again, and got some more pieces for Kalen.
Had pizzas from Ernie's it was very good.

Day five August 27..Wednesday..
We went out on the Pilgrim Belle Boat out of Plymouth Harbor..It was a little cool and rough on the water but a delightful day full of sunshine and my dad came along as well.. We had a nice time, went to The Lobster Hut for lunch it was great and super fresh chowder and fish sandwiches, grilled cheese for the kids. We went to the beach when we got back to the house. My mom and the kids..in the water too..
Back at the house we had a small BBQ with cheeseburgers, linqucia and corn on the cob. My brother and his son were there, auntie Margie, uncle ed...it was nice. Stephen came back from the cape a little disappointed no fish were caught..

Day six August 27..Thursday..
Time to leave and head for home..
Hit the road at 9:22 am.. There is no place like home.

Our mini trip

Tuesday , we leave travel to New Hampshire, arrive by 2pm.., it was a good ride, but very hot, had to use the air the entire way. We met Nana and Papa there too. We check in and try to settle in., my mom takes the kids to the pool indoor water park, and boy after four hours in the car they needed it. We all go to a place called the muddy moose for dinner it was nice.., a bit to loud and crowded for my mom, but the food was good.

Come back and go straight to bed, busy day tomorrow.

Wednesday Up early at 530am go for a quick breakfast with mom and the kids. Juice eggs coffee bagels, fruit salad. Get going at about 845am. We get there at about 915am., I am as excited as the children. I was hot and the day was only getting hotter, but yahoo., no rain at all. We go in no lines because mom printed our tickets on the computer from the business center..
We try to go around and get on every ride but 35 acres and 21 rides and 3 to 4 shows is a bit overwhelming. We had so much fun. Stephen went to check on Buddy and he had trouble with his knee and he was not having fun, so he didn't return to the park. I was a little sad about that, but still had a great time with the kids and my parents..

Return back to hotel at about 3pm...rest a bit.., my mom takes the kids to the pool they have so much fun, the water slides and the kiddie pool is just perfect.
We decide to go separate ways for dinner. After a short thundershower it cleared back up again. Myself and the kids went to the outlet shops at Settler's Green.., got some Lindts chocolates, and we also got two new watches, one for Stephen and one for myself.
Back in the car and drive into North Conway's Main Street, we stop at wonderful toy store and the kids pick out one toy each, The Toy Chest. A great little store.
Off to dinner, a small place called Delaney's wow great service, and amazing food.
I ordered baked stuffed haddock with corn and red bliss potato's, Stephen had baked stuffed shrimp,Stephen had pasta with marinara and Kalen had a burger with fries.
Had back to the room and get right to bed, we are tuckered out. We are sleep like babies. It was a long but very full filled day.

Final Day, We wake up early July 10., Thursday. We met my mom for breakfast. It was nice and quiet even though the hotel was super busy. It was early 720am or so. I wanted to shower and begin packing. Stephen took the children to the water park from 830am till 930 am..
They all thoroughly enjoyed the time there. K even went to the big yellow slide.
We said our goodbyes and packed up the car. I made sure to inform the front desk that the staff and hotel was great, friendly, it was extra nice we were able to bring the dog.
The ride home was long and hot again. It was great though I just love the White Mountains.

Graduation

Stephen graduated from preschool yesterday. I went to his school to spend the day with him, his classmates and his teachers. I brought two small gifts for them from Stephen. Just to say thank you and to show our appreciation. The younger years they say are the most formative. We shall see. The start of the year last September was a rough one, it was not an easy transition for him, he had never been away from us, never been on a school bus, or even been in an environment with other children in his age bracket. I hope he has learned some decent social skills and that he will grow and change more so over the summer break. Look out kindergarten, meet Stephen and he will be ready.

March of Dimes Walk for Babies

On Sunday May 4, 2008 I participated in my fourth walk for this great cause. It is so meaningful when you walk as a team. It's nice when you walk on your own as well., but I did enjoy walking a team with my work. Six of us including myself raised and turned in over $300.00 dollars. I am very proud of myself and our team for all our fundraising efforts. Also, for walking six miles. We were lucky the rain held off until after we were done. I am sore from the muscles I never use, but it is so minor compared to the babies born too soon, and their families. Until next year....

Good times...I miss them terribly, but getting together again soon is a warm fuzzy thought. I miss the laughter and the talks everything about them..watching them with my children. There is nothing greater in this life then ((great friends)) and family.., especially your parents., and mine well, mine are the very best its gets.

Springtime a Ring-a-ding time

It really truly has felt like a spring season outdoors these past couple of days. I didn't think she was ever going to arrive. The yard is a mess, needs raking and sorting.. The barn as well, it seems from October through April we just love to heave whatever into her, whatever it may be. The whole family is at fault here too. So I have been trying to muster the motivation to clean the yard and the barn, besides we don't want to be indoors on these warm days! Oh the minute I begin I turn around and the little ones have discovered some toy or games they haven't seen in 6 months or more, then its messy once again. Loosing battles. I think I will grab a magazine and sit in the sun on my Adirondack chair...Listen spring is here...Ahhhh.

Jammies from Nana.Papa, originally uploaded by MsMamaK.

Spring Snow

It is March 28, 2008, it's a Friday. Seven days into spring and we are having a snowstorm. Today we were to register little Stephen into Kindergarten for this September. I can't believe this weather. More so, I can't believe he will be going to public school. Both children in the same school come this fall..he seems nervous, a bit shy and a little apprehensive. I have all summer to ease his fears...I don't know who is more afraid here myself or my son.
Meanwhile there is no future date for this to be rescheduled. Just wait and see...and so it goes.

February

And so it goes the shortest month , the coldest. We welcome March with a smile. Winter takes it's toll. The children seem to enjoy frolicking in the cold blustery snow., must be their youthfulness. I just want to remember it all. I guess if we did not have the change of seasons I would be the first to miss it.

Snowy February

It is a snowy month so far, I know only six days into it. I am so not a winter person. Freezing rain added to the snowy days just mae me long for spring. They say if you can survive a Maine Winter you truly deserve spring. So here I am awaiting and counting the days.
I miss my very dear friend Dyana, and her family. It was about this time last year our friendship was thriving and getting very strong. I hope she can try to visit us this spring or perhaps this summer. Oh wishful thinking....and so it goes

Kathy's.Song

How I am feeling....

(P. Simon)I hear the drizzle of the rainLike a memory it fallsSoft and warm continuingTapping on my roof and walls. And from the shelter of my mindThrough the window of my eyesI gaze beyond the rain-drenched streetsTo England where my heart lies.My mind's distracted and diffusedMy thoughts are many miles awayThey lie with you when you're asleepAnd kiss you when you start your day.And as a song I was writing is left undoneI don't know why I spend my timeWriting songs I can't believeWith words that tear and strain to rhyme. And so you see I have come to doubtAll that I once held as trueI stand alone without beliefsThe only truth I know is you.And as I watch the drops of rainWeave their weary paths and dieI know that I am like the rainThere but for the grace of you go I.
